On Monday January 24th, 2022, Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 2, which makes masks optional for children who have parents who are choosing to “opt out”, goes into effect. However, various school districts, such that encompassing counties such as Albemarle, Alexandria, Arlington, Chesterfield, Fairfax, and Henrico, and cities such a Charlottesville, Hopewell and Richmond are all defying the Governor’s executive order.
Governor Glenn Youngkin was elected, largely in part, because during the campaign former Governor Terry McAuliffe stated that parents don’t get to have a choice regarding what their children learn in school. Terry McAuliffe was dead wrong on parents, who pay taxes that fund the schools, don’t have a say on their children’s education and he was wrong to state that parents don’t have a say on whether or not their children can wear masks in school. Yet these school boards are continuing the policies of Terry McAuliffe even though he was not re-elected!
